What is electrotherapy?
Electrotherapy is a modality used in physical therapy where gentle electrical stimulation is applied through electrodes on the skin. Depending on your needs, it may be used to support pain relief or to help a muscle “wake up” and contract more effectively during rehabilitation.
What does a session feel like?
Setup
We place electrodes on the targeted area and choose settings based on your goals and comfort.
Gentle stimulation
Most people feel a light tingling or pulsing sensation. It should not be painful. We adjust as needed.
Movement integration
We follow with mobility/strength work so the benefits carry into real function.
When we typically use it
Electrotherapy can be helpful during early rehab when pain limits movement, or when a muscle isn’t activating well after injury or surgery. We’ll recommend it only when it makes sense for your goals.
